In
the early 1990's, Pentech was one of the first companies to
recognize the need for drugs to treat erectile dysfunction
and premature ejaculation and as a result, focused its efforts
on the development of products to treat these conditions.
During this time, Pentech also explored the development of
compounds for the treatment of Female Sexual Dysfunction and
Parkinson's Disease.
By
1996, Pentech had developed and conducted early-phase studies
on a novel sublingual form of apomorphine hydrochloride which
was subsequently licensed to TAP Pharmaceutical Products,
Inc. for Phase 3 testing and regulatory submission. This product
received marketing authorization from the European Commission
in 2001 for first-line treatment of erectile dysfunction and
continues to be successfully marketed overseas. For more information
regarding this product, you should contact TAP at www.TAP.com.
In
the late 1990's amidst increasing concern about the cost of
drugs in the United States, Pentech explored the development
of cost-effective compounds for the treatment of depression.
As a result of this exploration and development work, Pentech
reached an agreement with Glaxo-Smith-Kline for the production
of the first authorized generic oral paroxetine hydrochloride
which is currently distributed in the United States and other
countries around the world for Pentech by Par Pharmaceuticals.
Pentech
is currently conducting early-stage research and development
of therapies for a variety of other medical conditions.
